Second Workstation Increases Small Parts Output
April 1, 2016
Bumotec offers the s181 5-axis turn-mill center, a compact multi-function machine targeted at industries such as micro-mechanic, medical and surgical instruments.
Derived from the Bumotec s191 linear CNC turn-mill center, the s181 is a 5- to 9-axis unit targeted at single set-up machining of complex and high-precision workpieces. Both production solutions utilize linear drives designed to eliminate backlash and increase precision, and feature high-level thermal stabilization for enhanced machining accuracies in the six-sided, complete machining of workpieces.
With a footprint of just 3.5 sq. m, the s181 has a 30,000 RPM HSK-40 tool spindle (optional 40,000 RPM), can handle bar of 32 mm diameter and includes a magazine for up to 90 tools.
Featuring a modular design, the machine can be equipped with a range of productivity-gaining options, including a second workstation to effectively increase productivity by enabling five driven tools to work on the rear side of one part while the main tool spindle works on another part. Thus, two tools are simultaneously machining the part, enabling reductions in cycle times. "Another technical advance optimizing time gain is the tool breakage detection system working in hidden time as well," said a company spokesperson. "The result is an increase in productivity - up to 40% according to the produced part."
