Automatic 4-Pallet Changer for Extended Uninterrupted Run-Time

MIDACO Corporation will demonstrate its Automatic 4-Pallet Changer at IMTS 2024.

The Automatic 4-Pallet Changer is designed to revolutionize high-volume production and low-volume, high-mix multiset-up operations, offering versatility and efficiency. This advanced system, featuring a single shuttle with four pallets, seamlessly integrates with new and existing VMCs. It enables extended periods of unattended machining, increasing operator walk-away time and maximizing overall productivity.

Key features of the Automatic 4-Pallet Changer:

• ° rotating shuttle: The pallet carousel provides full 360° rotation, allowing convenient access to all four pallets from flip-panel stations on two sides of the pallet changer. This design facilitates easy loading of heavy parts using a crane or robot without any overhead obstruction, even while the machine is in operation.
• Automatic pallet transfer: Upon completion of a job cycle, the pallets rotate automatically on the shuttle carousel, and the servo drive seamlessly transfers the next pallet onto the cast-iron receiver mounted directly on the machining center table. Precision ground steel rails and hardened locating pins/bushings provide repeatability within +/- 0.0001" (0.0025 mm).
• Versatile pallet sizes and capacities: The system offers four cast aluminum or cast-iron pallets, with sizes ranging from 28" x 15" (711 mm x 381 mm) to 50" x 24" (1,270 mm x 609 mm). Each pallet can handle weights from 500 lbs. (226 kg) to 2,000 lbs. (908 kg), depending on the model size and weight distribution.
• Enhanced safety and integration: The system includes three-sided safety guarding with a Pilz light curtain system. The control panel is fully integrated with the VMC via M-codes, allowing seamless operation and enhanced safety.

Additionally, MIDACO offers a Dual Automatic 4-Pallet Changer configuration. This set-up features a 4-pallet shuttle mounted on the left and right sides of the VMC, allowing pallets to be automatically fed into the machine from either side. This dual configuration provides eight fully loaded table setups, enabling continuous, unattended machining for multiple operations.
