Automated Machining Center Technology

Kitamura Machinery will showcase its SUPERCELL-300G 5-axis, horizontal flexible manufacturing cell along with a host of other CNC automation systems featuring smart manufacturing technologies on its machining centers at IMTS 2024. Attendees will be able to view the SUPERCELL-300G with the optional 60-station APC and 314 tool matrix style ATC in Kitamura booth 338520.

Packing 60-pallets into a compact footprint, the SUPERCELL-300G is a space saving All-In-One Smart Factory with the ability to run small- to medium-sized complex one off or high mix parts completely unmanned. With up to 80-pallets available, Kitamura's integrated work ID system employs an IC chip on each pallet, allowing for storage and communication of pallet work data quickly and accurately to the easy to operate pallet scheduling sub menu. Maximum workpiece diameter is O210 mm (O8.3") round with a maximum height of 200 mm (7.9"). The integrated design of the pallet pool system out front of the machine allows easy access and easy visibility of all pallets simultaneously for easier part set-up and quality control.

The SUPERCELL-300G is designed with a 360° rotary table combined with a highly rigid integrated trunnion table with an A-axis travel of 30 to -120° for maximum flexibility in positioning the workpiece closer to the spindle.

The standard 20,000 RPM, built-in, dual contact spindle offers the benefits of high speed, smooth precision and the ability to handle a variety of exotic materials often found in the medical, aerospace and general machining industries.

"The SUPERCELL-300G offers the advantages of enhanced chip management for greater levels of accuracy, increased productivity, better surface finishes, quick part changeover and longer tool life when compared to a vertical machining center," said a company spokesperson. Positioning accuracy is +/-0.001 mm (0.000039")/full stroke, and repeatability is +/-0.0005 mm (0.00002").

Significant magazine tool capacity and ease of use can be found in Kitamura's matrix style tool changer (up to 314 tools available). Kitamura's patented high-speed, fixed pot ATC system allows proper tool identification; matrix design means quicker (1.3 second) and smoother tool changes when dealing with more complicated parts that often require a large number of tools.

Additional Kitamura stand-out features such as linear scale feedback in all axes, high speed rapid feedrates of 60 m/min (2,362 IPM), IAC System 1 thermal compensation package, 67 million pulse encoder technology and Kitamura's user-friendly Arumatik-Mi CNC offer fast, smooth processing for simultaneous machining of multi-axes parts-completely unmanned.

"Machining centers only make money when they are cutting," said Ted Asano, President at Kitamura Machinery of USA, Inc. "Automating existing or new machining center technology enables manufacturers to incorporate an unmanned machining development processes for a multi-tasking machining environment that optimizes uptime. Our end users need to know that they can count on their machines to do the job right while running unattended for hours at a time. The precision, accuracy and reliability of Kitamura machining centers make them ideal for these types of lights-out applications. Add in the durability to maintain specs over many years, and you have an investment that requires minimal maintenance or replacement reducing overall production costs."
