CNC Profile Grinders on Display

Unison Corporation will be featuring the Model 3000 Dual Spindle 5-Axis CNC Profile Grinder and Model 1500 CNC Punch/Profile Grinder in booth 236630.

Model 3000 Dual Spindle 5-Axis CNC Profile Grinder

The Model 3000 is designed for tool blank preparation. It can rough and finish grind in one pass with its powerful 9,000 RPM and 10,000 RPM direct drive spindles. This grinder features Yaskawa AC drive amplifiers and servomotors, as well as an automatic pick & place parts loader/unloader for continuous grinding of parts. The Model 3000 is equipped with a Schaublin W25 Pneumatic Workholding System and a precise probe assembly to provide repeatability of parts. The Model 3000 is built on a polymer cast base and can be equipped with an on-board electric wheel dressing system to automatically dress the finishing wheel.

The Model 3000 features Unison's EZ Software, allowing the machine's operator to quickly customize and/or modify tool geometry with a user-friendly interface by filling in blanks and then verifying the part program by using the machine's real-time 3D Parts Predictor. Each machine is supplied with a complete software package and library of tool programs at no additional charge. The Model 3000's computer control monitors critical machine functions and alerts the operator to problems encountered during grinding. Errors are tracked and logged within the control to help operators identify problems. The Model 3000 can be networked and/or monitored via the internet and can be equipped with a Remote Connect feature allowing direct communication with Unison.

Model 1500 CNC Punch/Profile Grinder

The Model 1500 CNC Punch/Profile Grinder features a heavy-duty polymer base that provides vibration dampening characteristics for increased dimensional accuracy and finish of parts. The Model 1500 will grind round and nonround OD parts shapes using either a plunge or peel/profile grinding mode. An optional probe is available to allow the operator to quickly and accurately measure parts while they are still loaded in the machine. The Probe Assembly eliminates the laborious task of using the dial test indicator to set up each part before grinding.

"Unison's latest software provides enhanced grinding capabilities, allowing the Model 1500 to meet demanding grinding applications with the fastest cycle times," said a company spokesperson. "The rugged design of the Model 1500 along with its optional dressing system gives operators the ability to true and dress high performance diamond and CBN wheels as well as aluminum oxide."

The Unison Motion Control utilizes a Windows 10 Operating System along with Unison's software to monitor all critical machine functions and alert the operator to any errors encountered during grinding. Errors are tracked and logged within the machine's control to help users diagnose the problem. Designed with the machine operator in mind, Unison's Geometral software allows for quick customization of any program with minimal effort by filling in the blanks.

The 1500 is equipped with Yaskawa AC digital servo motors and drive amplifiers. The workhead features a high torque 29 Nm direct drive motor to maintain precise workpiece positioning during grinding by incorporating a 20 bit high resolution encoder, resulting in better part accuracy.

Recent design changes to the Model 1500 have made the system more ergonomic for the machine's operator. The new streamlined look integrates the control console into the upper enclosure, reducing the machine's overall floor space requirements.
