Enhanced Welding Simulation System

The AugmentedArc system by Miller uses augmented reality technology to improve the efficiency and economy of classroom education for beginner and intermediate level students. Users wear a specially designed helmet that shows them images of the real world, augmented with computer-generated images of metal workpieces, weld arcs and weld beads. The result is a simulation that closely resembles live-arc welding-without using an actual arc or consuming wire, shielding gas or coupons. Even more elevated than virtual reality, augmented reality enhances what students see and hear.

The newly enhanced AugmentedArc has upgraded hardware and software features for an even more realistic live-arc welding experience. Upgraded hardware features include a better balanced, lighter weight helmet, which has a larger viewing area for improved comfort and visibility. These upgrades also include a new TIG foot pedal accessory, which allows the user to control amperage to provide a fully engaged, realistic TIG welding process.

Along with hardware updates there are many software updates included with the newly enhanced AugmentedArc including free, user-friendly instructor software where teachers can customize curriculum, develop assignments, run reports and monitor each student's reports remotely. The system records video for instructors and students to replay, so they can review progress and evaluate performance. The system provides a high-level summary and all progress metrics for each course. Additional instructor accounts can now be added to the Teacher Software to create their own courses and easily manage their classes. The new AugmentedArc system provides real-time feedback in order to efficiently correct errors and reinforce proper welding practices. It is designed to reduce training time by accelerating skill advancement and minimizes material costs compared to traditional methods.
