CMM as a Service Offers Easy Access to Best-in-Class Metrology

A new program announced by Hexagon's Manufacturing Intelligence division provides businesses in the U.S. and Canada access to best-in-class metrology equipment as a service so they can benefit from the latest productivity improvements without waiting to invest in new equipment.

"For OEMs and contractors alike, thriving without the best metrology equipment can be a struggle, especially when precision is non-negotiable," said a company spokesperson. "As parts become increasingly complex, manufacturers are better able to increase capabilities and attract new customers by implementing, expanding or improving upon metrology processes to ensure consistent quality and compliance with customers' standards."

Called The Works, the new program helps manufacturers of all sizes gain immediate access to CMM technologies that may otherwise present costly capital investment as businesses seek to manage financial risk, and ensure their systems and certifications are maintained.

At the center of The Works is MyCare, a comprehensive new subscription program that includes annual certifications, preventative maintenance, software updates and unlimited technical support to help manufacturers reduce downtime while devoting more time to process improvement and less time to scheduling maintenance. The program also includes discounts on calibrations, repairs, parts and Cloud-based asset management.

"Hexagon metrology users can save 30-40% percent of costs devoted to maintenance annually by switching to the subscription versus paying for services separately," said Zvonimir Kotnik, Vice President-Metrology Devices, North America. "MyCare simplifies the process of maintaining metrology equipment, certifications, calibrations and software by ensuring that manufacturers do not have to sacrifice their time to obtain what they need to be successful.

"The Works builds on this and makes it easier for anyone to invest in new equipment that can make them more competitive without the risk. We know that they have the talent and determination to overcome their obstacles, and we believe they should have access to equipment and services that can help them be more successful today-not five or 10 years from now."

Under The Works, all CMMs include the PULSE environmental monitoring system, which uses a network of sensors to record potential crashes, variations in temperature, vibration and humidity in the vicinity of CMMs. The system delivers alerts when changes in operating status occur so that manufacturers can quickly assess and respond to problems. PULSE is fully integrated with SFx Asset Management software, which is included with The Works to make it simple for users to analyze equipment utilization and plan maintenance from anywhere. Cloud-based system information is accessible via a web browser, from which users can access real-time data, check system activity and status and work remotely with flexibility.

The Works also eliminates the risk that machinery will become obsolete or require increased maintenance costs. "Participants gain access to a range of metrology equipment, including the GLOBAL S Chrome, which can be adapted for applications and inspection environments and employs Compass technology to perform inspections 20% faster than conventional CMMs with no loss of accuracy. Program participants can achieve an up to 30% percent reduction in the cost of ownership over the program's duration," said the spokesperson.
