Automatic Drills, Multiple Spindle Devices

AutoDrill, a provider of automatic drills and multiple spindle devices, offers uniquely designed machines set up specifically for customers' application.

Recently, AutoDrill sold a number of machines to a local automation company that utilized them on a rotary table set-up for a large window manufacturer. Each drill was capable of sending 2 HP or more down to the tooling at various RPM rates. In this case, each drill unit also had a total of four tools at the working end. The multi-drill device being used was rated for a 24 hour duty cycle performing 5/8" holes in stainless steel on close centers.

The drills for this project were customized units capable of drilling a four hole pattern. In a separate step, the holes were then tapped. Finally, a deburring process was incorporated into the process.

"A short cycle time was needed due to a high volume of parts, and a fast delivery of AutoDrill's product was necessary to meet a deadline," said a company spokesperson. "From the very first call to shipment of the product took only three weeks. This allowed the machine builder to quickly assemble the final product and make delivery of the new machine to the end user in time for a critical seasonal need.

"Because industrial rated three phase motors were used, and because the AutoDrill self stroking and multi-tool heads are made for constant heavy-duty use, the fixture is expected to run for years with little to no maintenance."

AutoDrill offers self-feeder drills capable of up to 1,500 lbs. of thrust on typical shop air. Its multi-spindle devices are capable of performing processes with spacing as close as half of an inch. Larger products are capable of holding one inch or larger tool shanks, including custom ASA or threaded tooling, etc. AutoDrill has successfully manufactured multiple spindle units with as many as 35 or more spindles and multiple input sources for custom applications. The majority of its customers use single through four spindle head devices. AutoDrill stocks a full selection of spare parts and components in its New Jersey facility.
