Versatile Transfer Machining Center

The Bumotec s100multi machining center from Bumotec SA, based in Sâles Switzerland and part of the Starrag Group, is designed for high acceleration (3g: 27.24 m/s2) and cutting speed (minimum time between cuts: 500 ms) with linear motors in all axes.

"The accelerated performance is also due to the high-speed spindles (60,000 RPM). The new machine is designed for production of small precision parts. For example, currently production of a small series of watch components may be based on a series of single-spindle machines. For larger batch sizes, transfer lines with automation are often used. However, there is a strong demand for flexible, ergonomic machine tools offering excellent cutting dynamics and productivity for all batch sizes," said a Starrag spokesperson.

The new machine from Switzerland is engineered to be a production transfer machine. With its minimal footprint and multiple tool magazines (up to 144 tools), the Bumotec s100multi transfer center is suited for manufacturers producing ultra-precise components made from brass, aluminum or stainless steel. "Precision and versatility are realized no matter the batch size. The machine is suited for components up to a size of 80 x 80 x 80 mm. The Bumotec s100multi is a combination of high production output, excellent precision and flexibility," said Head of Development, Dr. Patric Pham. "Four workstations, equipped with a large tool capacity, and two milling spindles work simultaneously. This results in high precision allied to high machining speeds."

Bumotec has designed the machine to be ergonomic, providing the operator with easy access to the work piece (the mechanical system is located behind the work piece). Meanwhile, manufacturers will be benefited by its energy efficiency. For example, the CNC has an energy recovery system, and the machine operates without hydraulics.
