Turn Metal Additive Preforms into Finished Parts in One Workflow

At IMTS 2026, DN Solutions will be exhibiting the AM2CNC platform, which seamlessly integrates additive manufacturing and CNC machining in a single workflow. DN Solutions will be running a metal additive preform straight through to a finished, ready-to-use part on a single connected platform, demonstrated live with the DLX 450 metal additive system and the DVF 5000 2nd Gen 5-axis machining center with an Automatic Workpiece Changer (AWC).

"As much as 30-50% of an additive component's cost lands after the print-in finishing, drilling, tapping, inspection, and the handoffs between separate machines and separate vendors," said a company spokesperson. "Each handoff adds delay and invites quality variation. AM2CNC removes the gap: it carries the workpiece from additive preform to qualified part inside one workflow, under one vendor with no integration gap."

DN Solutions will demonstrate AM2CNC at IMTS 2026 using the DLX 450 and the DVF 5000. The DLX 450 builds the preform; palletized automation delivers the stored parts directly to the DVF 5000, where the 5-axis mill performs the high-precision finishing and tapping that turn a raw preform into a finished part. The workpiece never leaves the workflow.

The DLX 450 is a high-productivity powder bed fusion (LPBF) platform engineered for industrial-scale additive manufacturing. Its 450 x 450 x 470 mm (17.7" x 17.7" x 18.5") build chamber and up to four Yb fiber lasers-scanning at speeds up to 7 m/s-deliver high build rates with stable, repeatable quality.

The DVF 5000 is a compact 5-axis VMC engineered for lights-out automation and intricate workpiece geometries. Spindles up to 20,000 RPM deliver up to 230 Nm of torque for demanding applications, and the AWC keeps the machine cutting through unmanned, continuous operation-finishing preforms around the clock.

"This is where AM2CNC earns its place: additive creates the geometry, but additive alone cannot hold the dimensional accuracy and surface finish that defense, aerospace, and medical parts demand," said the spokesperson. "AM2CNC applies precision CNC finishing to complete exactly what additive cannot-closing the loop from preform to certified, ready-to-use part. Because no two preforms leave the build chamber identical, AM2CNC measures each one directly in the machine and fits the finishing program to where that specific part actually sits so the toolpath references the real preform on the table, not an idealized nominal."
