Advanced 5-Axis Multitasking Approach to Large-Part Machining

SORALUCE FP60 floor-type milling, boring, multitasking machine with one of many final configurations that includes both a multitasking mill/turn table with linear movement and a 4th-axis milling table with linear movement.

A Soraluce FP60 5-axis floor-type milling, boring, multitasking machine will headline Select Machining Technologies' booth at IMTS 2026 to demonstrate the high level of multitasking that defines Soraluce. Designed for large-part manufacturers, the FP60 can be configured to integrate milling, boring, turning, and even grinding-enabling multiple machining operations in a single set-up to improve accuracy and efficiency while requiring less floor space.

Five-axis contour milling capability further differentiates the FP60 from traditional boring mills, with its two-axis indexing head rated at 80 HP with a maximum spindle speed of 7,000 RPM, the company reported. A portfolio of 300 interchangeable heads designed and manufactured in-house, along with an automatic head changer, add to its capabilities. Finally, a 60-tool automatic tool changer supports vertical and horizontal tool changes.

The FP60 is configured with 236" (6,000 mm) of longitudinal travel, 126" (3,200 mm) of vertical and 63" (1,600 mm) of cross travel. Its traveling-column architecture allows longitudinal travel to be extended to 472" to support larger work envelopes.

Multiple table configurations are available, including floor plates, fourth-axis milling tables with linear movement, and turn/mill multitasking tables with linear movement. Pendulum machining can also be enabled through partitioned work zones.

Structurally, the FP60 employs a monoblock cast iron column design, linear guideways, and a dynamic transmission system intended to balance rigidity and responsiveness. To address vibration during heavy cuts, Soraluce's DAS+ (Dynamic Active Stabilizer) system eliminates chatter for enhanced surface finishes and extended tool life. The FP60 is equipped with a HEIDENHAIN TNC7 control, widely regarded for its performance in simultaneous 5-axis machining, the company noted.

Select Machining Technologies is the U.S. partner for Soraluce, as well as Geminis and Momentum, all of which will have machines under power in booth 339100 South Building.
