Massive Scale Meets Micron Precision

Kitamura Machinery will unveil the all-new SUPERCELL-1000G Heavy-Duty 5-Axis HMC at IMTS 2026, introducing a new approach to large-part manufacturing where structural rigidity serves as the foundation for precision, productivity, and long-term machining stability.

Designed for aerospace, defense, energy, oil and gas, renewable energy, and heavy industrial applications, the SUPERCELL-1000G addresses one of the industry's greatest challenges: maintaining micron-level accuracy while machining increasingly larger and heavier components.

"As manufacturers continue to push the limits of part size and material removal rates, conventional 5-axis machine designs that rely on complex articulating spindle heads can introduce mechanical instability and reduced rigidity during aggressive cutting," said a company spokesperson. "The SUPERCELL-1000G was engineered around a fundamentally different philosophy: rigidity first. At its core is an ultra-heavy 45-ton box-way platform paired with a reinforced trunnion-style tilting table featuring dual motors on the tilting axis, enabling exceptional holding power and stability when machining heavy workpieces up to O1,080 mm x 1,050 mm (42.5 in. x 41.3 in.) and 1,500 kg (3,300 lbs.). This dual-motor architecture ensures balanced support on both sides of the trunnion, improving control under heavy cutting loads and maintaining confidence when driving larger diameter tools into the material. The result is superior damping, higher achievable feedrates, improved machinability in milling applications, and consistently better part quality compared to articulating head designs."

To further enhance stability and accuracy, the SUPERCELL-1000G incorporates twin ballscrews and twin-drive servo systems on the X, Y, Z, and A axes. Full linear and rotary scale feedback, ballscrew cooling, and Kitamura's Intelligent Advanced Control (IAC) thermal compensation system continuously maintain geometric accuracy during extended machining cycles.

The result is a machine capable of delivering positioning accuracy of ±0.002 mm (±0.000079") and repeatability of ±0.001 mm (±0.000039"), with rotary-axis repeatability of ±4 arcseconds.

Power and performance are provided through Kitamura's gear-driven spindle technology, developed through more than four decades of spindle engineering expertise. A standard 12,000 RPM #50 taper spindle delivers 585.9 Nm (432.2 ft-lbs.) of torque, while an optional 8,000 RPM high-torque spindle produces 1,225.9 Nm (903.6 ft-lbs.) for demanding roughing applications and heavy material removal.

The machine's 1,570 mm (61.8") X-axis, 1,300 mm (51.2") Y-axis, and 1,300 mm (51.2") Z-axis travels provide substantial machining capacity, while rapid feedrates of up to 60 m/min (2,362 IPM) enable fast positioning without sacrificing rigidity, the company reported.

Productivity is equally central to the SUPERCELL-1000G design. A standard 122-tool fixed-pot automatic tool changer, with optional 217- and 312-tool matrix magazine configurations, supports complex multi-operation machining. The standard dual-pallet system maximizes spindle utilization by allowing set-up and machining operations to occur simultaneously, reducing downtime and increasing throughput. The platform is also designed for future automation expansion, including multi-pallet systems, flexible manufacturing systems, and robotic integration.
