Doosan's VC 510 is designed to provide heavy cuts in tough alloys and composites. Its traveling column design with integral pallet changer allows simultaneous cutting and part loading/unloading to maximize throughput in production environments. Axis travels are 30.0" x 20.3" x 22.4" (XYZ) and the heavy-duty table supports loads up to 770 lbs per side.
"At 20,240 lbs the VC 510 is a heavy-duty production machine ideal for iron castings, steel forgings and other demanding high volume part manufacturing," said a company spokesperson. "Fine grain Meehanite composition absorbs shock and helps dissipate heat. The travelling column allows the table and workpieces to remain stationary throughout the machining process. Loads on the guideways, ball screws and motors remain uniform. Heavy-duty, roller-type linear motion guideways are widely spaced for even weight distribution."
Power is derived from a 25 HP, 10,000 RPM, ISO 40 spindle motor that generates up to 86.6 ft-lbs of torque. High grade spindle balancing technology is intended to eliminate vibrations that can compromise accuracy and surface finish. The power is transmitted through a heavy-duty drive belt. According to the company, this eliminates slippage, promotes thermal stability and minimizes vibration. An encoder is attached to the spindle for rigid tapping.
"The cam-type double-arm ATC mounts 40 CAT-40 tools," said the spokesperson. "Using random access, the tool changer delivers instant waiting tool availability, even during short cutting cycles. The result is a quick, reliable ATC with a fast 1.3 seconds tool-to-tool time and 4.3 seconds chip-to-chip. The BCT 40 Taper Spindle allows for complete interchangeability between CAT taper tooling and Big Plus. The Big Plus tools dual-contact tool-holding system establishes contact at both the spindle face and toolholder flange. This results in up to 40% greater rigidity. The precision face contact enables high precision machining with extra-long tools. This is very useful for precision deep boring or over length end mill work."
The automatic indexing table is divided into two sections by a heavy-duty guard. Each section measures 33.8" x 22.0". The table remains stationary during cutting operations, allowing machining to be performed on one side while parts are being loaded or unloaded on the other. The pallet rotates 180° in 5.5 seconds including unclamp/clamp.
Additional features of the VC 510 include a portable manual pulse generator, a program and data protection key switch, PCMCIA card slot, 230 PSI through-spindle coolant system (1,000 PSI optional), fully enclosed guarding, automatic lubrication and a chip disposal/coolant system. The controller is a FANUC 0iMD which registers up to 400 machining programs.
