Drills for Deep Hole/Large Diameter Energy Applications

Allied Machine & Engineering's APX drilling products are designed for deep hole and large diameter applications. They are suitable for the oil and gas, petrochemical and renewable energy markets.

The APX was specifically designed to allow higher spindle speeds and to take advantage of the power curve on modern CNC machines. "This results in maximum penetration rates on deep hole drilling applications," said a company spokesperson. "For example, the APX provides enhanced results when drilling holes in rotating slew ring bearing sections for wind energy applications. Here, the APX drill offers a 20% faster penetration rate, double the tool life over competitive products and lower cost per hole."

APX drill inserts are offered in sizes ranging from 38 mm to 101.6 mm (1.500" to 4"). The tool uses a fixed series body with various heads to determine the cutting diameter. There are 10 series to cover the diameter range and are available in lengths of 3, 5, 8 and 10xD. A unique "X" locator on the head to body connection allows for simple assembly and increased strength. The locking screws position the head for a secure connection with minimal runout.
