Flexible IMG Vise Built for Automated Machining Applications
September 1, 2026
The IMG vise is a flexible and modular wokholding system from SMW Autoblok. Engineered for high-precision and 5-axis machining applications, the IMG vise offers three clamping styles in one unit: self-centering, double clamping, and fixed clamping. The vise is designed to be paired with automation and palletized systems, making it suited for lights-out machining environments.
The IMG vise utilizes a patented telescoping system that features a fully protected operating screw that is sealed from coolant and chips. This innovation makes it possible to avoid having to remove the jaws in order to find the clamping position. Changeover between self-centering, double clamping, and fixed clamping set-ups can be completed in less than a minute.
IMG vises feature a maximum clamping force of up to 50 kN. They are available in a wide range of sizes, including jaw widths of 88 mm, 125 mm and 160 mm, and maximum clamping lengths ranging from 130 mm to 420 mm.
The IMG vises are available with SMW Autoblok,Äôs SinterGrip jaws that use replaceable carbide inserts to bite directly into raw workpiece material. They require a bite as low as 2.5 mm without compromising clamping force, and eliminate the need to premachine workpieces with expensive dovetail preparation.
IMG vises are automation-ready and pair well with systems such as the SMW Autoblok PLUS5, a mechanical zero-point clamping system used in standard machining and 5-axis operations to reduce set-up and changeover times. It features a fast 140° to 180° locking/unlocking mechanism and interfaces with industry-standard 52 mm or 96 mm pin spacings.
