Edge Technologies has partnered with Schlenker Spannwerkzeuge to provide ultra-precision bar feed collets.
Depending on the application, bar feeding collets vary. Edge Technologies carries standard bar feeding collets between 5 mm and 100 mm in stock, and just needs to know channel set size, bar pusher OD, and make and model of the bar feeder to help ensure accurate and fast delivery. Hex or square collets are available and considered special-order items.
The make and model of the bar feeder is important, because collets may be threaded or set screw, or pin on.
Threaded collets screw directly into the bar feeder,Äôs pusher rod or holder. They work best for long runs of one bar size, because they are secure and provide high concentricity (centering) since the threaded connection keeps the collet aligned with the axis of the pusher.
Set screw collets (sometimes called push-on collets) slide onto the end of the pusher and can be held in place by one or more set screws. According to the company, they are faster to change over than threaded versions,Äîjust loosen a screw, swap the collet, and tighten it back up. This makes them good for short runs and frequent diameter changes.
Pin on collets work similar to set screw collets, except they have a pin. Take the pin out, put the collet on, and push the pin back on. These are exclusive to smaller channel sets (between 5 mm and 22 mm).
Schlenker Spannwerkzeuge specializes in bar feeding collets with tight tolerances of 0.005 mm, beyond the industry standard of 0.015 mm, the company noted.
Schlenker Spannwerkzeuge, based in Germany, focuses solely on collets, guide bushes, bar feed collets, rotating inserts and custom workholding. Everything is made in-house, from start to finish. Edge Technologies has been the exclusive North American distributor for Schlenker for over 15 years.
