Expand Machinery will introduce the new GENTURN SL-32ABY hybrid Swiss CNC lathe at IMTS in booth #338045. Designed for high-efficiency production of complex parts, the SL-32ABY combines main and subspindle capability, B-axis machining and dual Y-axis functionality in a compact Swiss-style platform built for flexibility, throughput and tool life.
The GENTURN SL-32ABY machines 32 mm barstock with or without a guide bushing, giving manufacturers the ability to match each job to the most profitable processing method. This flexibility can help reduce setup time, improve material utilization and shorten bar remnants while supporting both production efficiency and demanding part requirements. Equipped with 6,000 RPM, 7.5 HP main and subspindle motors, the SL-32ABY provides the cutting power needed for challenging materials. The machine features 41 tools, including 13 driven tools standard, enabling complex workpieces to be completed in one seamless operation.
For front-side machining, the SL-32ABY offers 20 tools, including six turning tools, five I.D. tool positions, two deep-hole I.D. tool positions, three cross-working live tools and four B-axis tools capable of working at any angle, including axial and radial operations. The subspindle offers 21 tools, including nine driven tools standard, with four turning tools, three I.D. tool positions, three radial live tools and two axial live tools. In addition, five I.D. tools and four B-axis live tools are shared with the main spindle and can also serve as cross or axial live tools.
The SL-32ABY is powered by the Mitsubishi M-830 CNC control, featuring a 15-inch screen and fast processing speed to keep all seven axes working efficiently. The high-performance M-830 control includes a 64-bit RISC processor, 64-bit fiber-optic backplane, 270,000 block-per-minute processing speed, 2,700 block look-ahead capability and a 32 GB solid-state data server. Mitsubishi,Äôs Super Smooth Surface Control allows parameters to be adjusted between roughing and finishing to balance production throughput with required surface finish, while advanced mid-program restart supports quick recovery after a broken-tool event. A three-year Mitsubishi control, motor and drive warranty is provided by the factory and backed by a countrywide support network.
