Fixtureworks has introduced a new pneumatic clamping locator module, the AMWFH-S locator and its corresponding locator pin, the AMWFH-M, to its line of clamping locator systems for fastening in a wide range of tooling, fixturing and assembly operations.
The modules, with zero-point features, help reduce set-up time for machine changeover and allow for quick and precise clamping. Together, the locating module and pin is single-acting with spring clamping, pneumatic unclamping. It provides locating repeatability to ±0.06 mm and clamping force of 135 lbs. to 225 lbs. The new models are available in 49 mm and 64 mm diameters.
The light-duty pneumatic locator module is part of a flex locating system that enables high-precision positioning and can be utilized for quick change in machining operations. For fixture plate changeover, this module is mounted to a base plate, and a clamping pin, AMWFH-M, is attached to the fixture plate. This is a single-acting clamp with the air used only for unclamping. Supplying air allows the tapered piston to rise and loosens the balls that hold the pin. Clamping is maintained by spring force even without air supply. Releasing air allows the spring to push down the tapered piston to pull down the clamping pin. Only 44 PSI of air pressure is required for operation. This module has two unclamping ports for unclamping. The body made from electroless nickel-plated 4140 steel.
The clamping pins AMWFH-M are used with the AMWFH-S module for fastening and locating on various fixturing and assembly operations. The accurate L-type pin is used for precision locating. The Standard S-type pin is used for nonlocating clamping. The pins in the series are made from electroless nickel-plated 4135 steel, quenched and tempered. The two pins in the series are available in 13 mm and 15 mm diameters.
