1440-PLC-2N AutoAssist Precision Lathe

Sharp Industries, Inc. has launched its new AutoAssist lathe, the 1440-PLC-2N, featuring a touchscreen Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) designed to advance manual machining. This technology offers the power and efficiency of conversational programming while preserving the accessibility of manual operations.

The new 10,Äù touchscreen control, Sharp,Äôs AutoAssist, is built with simplicity in mind. Operators can set up part runs in minutes, not hours. The intuitive PLC interface minimizes the learning curve and reduces dependency on highly specialized labor.

,ÄúWith the introduction of the 1440-PLC-2N, we are creating a new category of machining,,Äù said a company spokesperson. ,ÄúAutoAssist empowers operators of all skill levels to achieve precision results with unprecedented speed and ease. We are so excited for our customers to try this new machine. We truly believe it is the future of manual machining and this is just the first of many models to come.,Äù

With Sharp,Äôs new AutoAssist PLC, machine shops can increase manual machining productivity by 40-60%, according to the company. The control comes standard with eight conversational turning applications, including OD turning, facing, threading, taper turning, and chamfering, allowing operators to produce parts faster with less programming effort. The AutoAssist control also gives machinists the flexibility to operate the lathe in either automatic or manual mode, making it ideal for both one-off jobs and small production runs.

The 1440-PLC-2N lathe features a 14,Äù swing over bed, 40,Äù distance between centers, 1.5,Äù spindle bore, 6.7 HP servo motor drive, chuck guard, coolant system, and sliding door/splash guard. It is especially suited for high-mix, low-volume environments.

"Shops are able to produce parts faster than it takes to write a CNC program, making it perfect for jobs shops, schools, prototyping, and quick-turnaround manufacturing needs," said the spokesperson.
