Workholding Solutions on Display

SMW Autoblok will be featuring a variety of workholding solutions at IMTS 2026 in booth 431617.

MOTIACT Mechatronic Grippers

The MOTIACT series of mechatronic grippers is engineered for performing precise, consistent, and accurately monitored gripping operations for moving parts, pallets, and chucks in and out of CNC machines and automated work cells.

These grippers are equipped with an incremental measuring system to provide consistent gripping pressure, linear positioning, and speed control. All models feature a Profinet or I/O link interface to help ensure seamless integration into existing systems.

There are four series of MOTIACT grippers featuring a range of sizes and gripping forces:

,Ä¢ MX-S (small parts): 3/6/8 mm strokes per jaw and gripping force of 40/150/250 N. They are suited for cobot applications, pick & place tasks, and handling delicate or smaller workpieces.

,Ä¢ MX-M (universal): 8/13 mm strokes per jaw and gripping force of 1,200/1800 N. Suited for machine tending applications, with a substantial weight capacity and gripping force to accommodate various workpieces.

,Ä¢ MX-U (universal): 55 mm strokes per jaw and gripping force of 300 N. Designed for a larger range of products, part families, delicate parts, and medical applications where parts must be handled carefully.

,Ä¢ MX-L (long-stroke): 55/99 mm jaw strokes per jaw and gripping force of 27,000/40,000 N. With a maximum weight capacity of up to 200 kg, these robust, larger jaw stroke grippers are built for larger part applications.

MOTIACT grippers can be paired with SMW's optional contactless inductive coupling system, eliminating cables while supporting full 360° continuous rotation of the end-of-arm tooling (EOAT). These grippers are up to IP67 rated for high durability in any environment.

Designed to be self-locking, MOTIACT grippers maintain their gripping force and position mechanically even if there is an unexpected power failure. Equipped with absolute or incremental measurement systems, the grippers allow constant monitoring and adjustment of jaw positions.

Fully Automated Jaw Changes with KNCS-matic Chucks

SMW Autoblok will feature the KNCS-matic quick jaw change chucks for automated production environments. The latest clamping system in the KNCS power chuck family, the KNCS-matic is designed for automatic quick jaw changes by conventional industrial robots.

This workholding system uses an industrial robot to deploy a release pin to detach the base jaws, replace them with new ones, and secure them in place with the pin. Jaws are replaced quickly and precisely, reducing set-up times and increasing flexibility for high-mix production environments.

Available in six different sizes, KNCS-matic chucks offer a clamping force range of 100-250 kN, depending on the size. The chucks are proofline sealed to keep coolant, chips, and debris out of the internal mechanisms, reducing maintenance costs and downtime.

KNCS-matic chucks are designed to seamlessly integrate with MX-S mechatronic grippers from SMW Autoblok,Äôs MOTIACT product line. Additionally, their F100 inductive coupling system provides contactless transmission of energy and signals between the robot arm and gripper, further enhancing the system,Äôs ease of use and efficiency.

SLX Digit Vise Designed for Automated Quick Jaw Changes

The SLX digit vise is a hydraulic long-stroke vise featuring integrated sensor technology that is built for automated quick jaw changes. Suited for precision machining and robotic automation, it offers self-centering clamping, extra-long jaw strokes, and a fully sealed design for low maintenance.

The jaws of the SLX digit can be changed manually by an operator or automatically via an industrial robot. The design of these vises features a release pin that can be easily actuated by a robot, allowing for rapid jaw changeover times with no involvement from the machine operator. The vise is engineered for lights-out high-mix, low-volume (HMLV) production environments where full automation is a priority.

The SLX digit offers a jaw stroke of 55 mm per jaw (110 mm total) and a clamping force of up to 75kN. An integrated LPS 4.0 sensor system delivers jaw position monitoring, helping ensure that each part load and unload is completed successfully.

SLX digit vises are proofline sealed, minimizing contamination from chips and coolant. Integrated hydraulic safety valves help ensure the clamping force is maintained even if there is an unexpected pressure drop.

Versatile Pneumatic Gripping System for EOAT Applications

SMW Autoblok will highlight its integrated pneumatic gripping system for quick change robotic EOAT applications. Consisting of the PRS Tool Changer, PX Pneumatic Grippers, and C40 Inductive Coupler, this system can be configured for applications ranging from small components to heavy loads.

The PRS Robotic Tool Changers is a pneumatic system designed for automated quick and safe gripper changes for efficient and reliable robotic operations. Available in five sizes with maximum liftable weights ranging from 20 kg to 500 kg, the system includes pneumatic connections, a spring clamp + TURBO mechanism, and an optional electric signal interface module for enhanced functionality.

The PRS pairs seamlessly with SMW Autoblok,Äôs PX Pneumatic Gripper lineup. These self-centering grippers feature high gripping force facilitated by an oval piston, a compact and lightweight aluminum construction, and interchangeability with most universal grippers. PX grippers are available in dozens of sizes and incorporate innovative sensor technology, including magnetic switches, inductive sensors, or analog position measuring systems.

Rounding out the system, the C40 Inductive Coupling System is designed for contact-free transmission of power and data between moving/rotating and stationary components. It provides an alternative to standard mechanical pins, eliminating wear and maintenance concerns. This solution provides seamless and efficient operations for robotic tools and pallet changers.
