Index Table with Flexibility

The Kawata TOUCHDEX index table is designed to offer quick set-up and enhanced flexibility. The TOUCHDEX indexes automatically and is mechanically synchronized with the user's NC program. It needs no power cables or digital interface. The TOUCHDEX is not motorized, so it requires only minimum space and can be quickly installed at almost any location for 4-axis and/or 5-axis applications.
"All Kawata TOUCHDEX index tables are compact and easy to set up, but the versatile new FD-105 sets a new standard for efficient use of limited space. With a 105 mm table and 60 mm depth, the FD-105's low profile enables multiple units to be mounted on vertical or horizontal machining centers (HMCs)," said a company spokesperson. Each unit can be individually adjusted, thus reducing the need for extra set-ups for complex parts.
"Kawata TOUCHDEX index tables have a locking pin that automatically fixes the workpiece with a clamping force two to three times greater than an ordinary friction brake," said the spokesperson. "Kawata TOUCHDEX can tackle heavy milling, drilling and tapping jobs with enhanced precision and consistency," said the spokesperson.
Indexing accuracy is less than 30 seconds (cumulative). Repeat accuracy is ±3 seconds. The TOUCHDEX clamping system is engineered to ensure zero backlash for the life of the unit.
"Because it has no motorized parts, the TOUCHDEX can be installed in tight locations. The required area is approximately half that of regular indexers. It is also lightweight and easy to handle," said the spokesperson. By aligning two or more TOUCHDEX units, multiple workpieces can be machined simultaneously.
The TOUCHDEX is available in a variety of other models, including:
- The FDR model for clockwise and counter-clockwise operation.
- The FDM model for vertical or horizontal installation. Versions of the FDM model are available with 1°, 5° or 15° minimum indexing angle increments and with 15°, 45° and 90° indexing angles at full pushbar stroke.
- The Tilting model integrates two units for five-face machining on vertical machining centers (VMCs).
- The Vicedex model enables three-face machining in a single operation.
