Twin Spindle Turning Center

"The MW120II twin spindle turning machine is engineered with a high-speed, lightweight gantry loader that can traverse speeds in the X, Y and Z axes 1.8 times faster than conventional models," said a company spokesperson. "This manufacturing solution increases throughput and reduces production costs without sacrificing payload capacity."

AA and AB operations cutting low carbon steel exhibit the speed of the new gantry and the compactness of the turnaround station. "The machine's turnaround unit is half the size of conventional systems, reducing space requirements on the shop floor. The MW120II machine ensures additional space savings and footprint reduction while increasing efficiency, especially in cell configuration," said the spokesperson.

Automation is built-in from the start, offering great flexibility and the opportunity to further automate a turning process with peripheral equipment, or even tie in multiple machines for a seamless productive cell. Because of this, Muratec combined two MW120II machines into a single production cell, utilizing common transfer, turnaround and feeding units for lean, efficient and above all, profitable operation.

"The MW120II features significant improvements to machine idle time compared to the traditional machine," said the spokesperson. This reduction in idle time can be achieved by improving the times required for spindle acceleration/deceleration, turret unclamping, chuck loading, shutter cycling and gantry load/ unload. Coupled with faster shutter speeds and quicker chuck open and close times, Muratec reduced the part load and unload cycle by 1.5 seconds.

Muratec's MW120II twin spindle turning machine also introduces new structural improvements. Advancements include an enhanced headstock shape for high rigidity, a renewed live-tool motor, upgraded linear guide for X and Z axes, and an enhanced turret shape, relocated Z-axis ball screw and turret bar for ultimate following capabilities. The turning machine also adds production line convenience with a 1,100 mm spindle height, aligning with those of other MW120 group models.
