Stone City Products is completing its 30,000 sq. ft. expansion. Since 1946, Stone City Products has been delivering precision machining, metal stamping and value-added assembly to customers in the automotive, rail car and HVAC industries.
"What began as a small operation serving local manufacturing businesses, Stone City has evolved, generating $22 million in sales per year from both domestic and international customers," said a company spokesperson. To keep up with the growth, Stone City had been renting additional space over a mile away on John Williams Blvd. "It was an obstacle," said Stewart Rariden, CEO of Stone City Products. "The expansion has improved our workflow and increased efficiency. It is also much more convenient for employees."
As a result of the $2 million project, low-volume product lines and equipment were transferred to the new space, providing the opportunity for growth and additional lines. Fabrication and assembly were also relocated. "There is a plan to expand the fabrication department to include a laser cutting machine in the next 1-2 years, now possible with the new space," said Rariden.
"Beyond being an industry leader in quality and service, Stone City Products is also a major contributor to the community," said the spokesperson. The North Lawrence Career Center has received generous donations from the company to be used for leading edge technology and equipment. "Stone City Products' leadership in the community provides a great example for how all of us can engage and make real impact," said Shance Sizemore, CEO of the Lawrence County Economic Growth Council. "Additionally, we are proud to see companies like Stone City Products investing significant time and money into their organization and into the community." Rariden also sits on numerous boards and committees.
When asked about potential increases in employment, Rariden mentioned bringing back the weekend shift, especially as product lines increase. Stone City currently runs two shifts and has 105 employees.
