Compact Swiveling Milling Heads Reduce Machining Time

SETCO offers its line of single and multi-axis milling heads that allow multiple manufacturing operations to be combined. The compact swiveling heads are available in 1-axis and 2-axis configurations. They can be integrated into new CNC machining centers and CNC lathes, or be custom engineered for integration into existing machine tool designs.

VP of Sales & Marketing Joe Rawls said, "The torque, clamping force and rigidity these heads offer is crucial to the success we have had with them in the field. We have had great success with them on 5-axis machining operations using bridge and gantry style machining centers in aerospace and die mold applications. The advantage of multi-axis heads is that work can be completed many times in a single set-up. That increased throughput represents tremendous savings to the machine owner."

Solutions are available for both rigid and pick up interfaces to the machine tool. The heads are available in both high torque and high speed configurations. The high torque milling heads can generate up to 4,000 Nm of output, whereas the high speed spindles have speeds up to 20,000 RPM. Setco's single axis heads install on CNC lathes and allow turning and milling operations to be combined.

For users of existing bridge style machines, SETCO offers versatile swiveling milling heads with pickup tool interfaces for use with head changing machines. In some cases, depending on the machine, an adapter to interface may be required.
