Sciaky, Inc., a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries, Inc. (PSI) and provider of metal additive manufacturing (AM) solutions, will provide an Electron Beam Additive Manufacturing (EBAM) system to Future Additive Manufacturing in Aerospace (FAMAero), a privately-owned metal 3-D printed parts bureau located in Fenton, MI.
FAMAero will leverage Sciaky's EBAM technology to offer fast large-scale 3-D printed parts and prototypes to manufacturers seeking to reduce production time and costs associated with traditional manufacturing processes. FAMAero's services will be particularly suitable for customers in aerospace, defense, oil and gas and sea exploration industries.
"The custom EBAM system ordered by FAMAero will be the largest production metal 3-D printer in the world, with a nominal part envelope of 146 in. (3,708 mm) wide x 62 in. (1,575 mm) deep x 62 in. (1,575 mm) high," said a company spokesperson. With this type of scalability, FAMAero will be able to produce metal parts over 12' in length.
"FAMAero is well-positioned to be North America's go-to source for fast and affordable metal 3-D printed parts and prototypes," said Scott Phillips, President and CEO of Sciaky, Inc. "Based on recent market dynamics, we believe FAMAero is on the cusp of a burgeoning trend in the metal 3-D printing marketplace, which will undoubtedly grow globally over time."
"FAMAero is entering the market as the first private, dedicated parts bureau in North America for large-scale 3-D printed metal parts," said Don Doyle, President of FAMAero. "Our Factory as a Service concept, combined with Sciaky's industry-leading EBAM technology, will provide manufacturers a new avenue to significantly slash time and cost on the production of critical parts, while offering the largest build platform and selection of exotic metals to choose from in the 3-D parts service market."
As a scalable metal AM solution, (in terms of work envelope), Sciaky's EBAM systems can produce parts ranging from 8" to 19' in length. EBAM is also a fast deposition process in the metal AM market, with gross deposition rates ranging from seven to 25 lbs. of metal per hour. "EBAM brings quality and control together with the Interlayer Real-time Imaging and Sensing System (IRISS), which is the only real-time adaptive control system in the metal 3-D printing market that can sense and digitally self-adjust metal deposition with precision and repeatability," said the spokesperson. "This closed-loop control is the primary reason that Sciaky's EBAM 3-D printing process can deliver consistent part geometry, mechanical properties, microstructure and metal chemistry, from the first part to the last."
