Tornos will present the new version of the SwissNano at its grand opening event May 1-2.
Tornos Technologies US Corp. has announced the grand opening of its new Customer Center Chicago with a theme of "Turning Together," commemorating the 60th anniversary of Switzerland headquarters opening the first facility in the U.S. in 1959.
On May 1 - 2 from 10 AM - 5 PM, Tornos will host an open house where all are welcome to visit the new customer center and celebrate 60 years in the U.S. During the open house event, seminars will be held covering topics of medical, automotive and electronics fields. In conjunction with the grand opening and 60th year anniversary celebration, Tornos US will showcase the U.S. preview of its new 7 mm SwissNano.
At 13,000 sq. ft., the new customer center includes a spacious, state-of-the-art showroom to showcase each product in Tornos' line-up, a large warehouse to accommodate spare parts inventory and a bigger office space to promote employee growth.
New Tornos US President Daniel Maerklin, who was appointed in February 2019, welcomes guests not only from the Midwest but nationwide to visit the new customer center first-hand.
7 mm SwissNano U.S. Preview
"For nearly five years now, the SwissNano has been making a name for itself with its high precision and enhanced ergonomics. Tornos is pleased to announce the arrival of a new SwissNano model featuring a higher capacity," said the spokesperson. "The unique kinematics of the SwissNano enable turning, drilling, cutting, deburring, roughing and finishing operations. A large range of precision parts can be machined on the SwissNano, including parts for micromechanics, electronics, medical and dental segments."
While the O 4 mm bar capacity of the original SwissNano allowed entry into these precision markets, it now enables access into new markets for specialists who desire to machine larger diameter parts. Philippe Charles, Head of Product Management Swiss-Type explains, "The idea was to offer a machine with a similar design that exhibits the same top performance. Against this backdrop, our engineers have paid particular attention to the machine stability. While being only slightly larger than the standard model, the machine still has the smallest footprint of the market in its category, is ergonomic and features high thermal stability and precision."
The workpiece machining capacity has increased from O 4 mm x 28 mm to O 7 mm x 50 mm, the spindle output from 1 kW to 2.5 kW and the number of standard tools from 13 to 18. Furthermore, supplementary machining functions such as thread whirling for main machining operations, as well as gear hobbing, polygon milling or cross drilling for back machining operations, have been added. To ensure maximum efficiency, the part collection system is offered in various versions and can be selected depending on the length of the parts produced; it can be swapped in just a few moments during set-up work.
