Machine Dynamics Enable High-Speed Milling
April 1, 2019
GF Machining Solutions offers its Mikron MILL X 400 U. "The machining center's unique dynamics enable efficient and reliable 3-axis and 5-axis ultra-high-speed milling (HSM) for low- to medium-volume production of high-quality medical components, aerospace structural parts, closed impellers and ICT enclosure parts," said a company spokesperson.
The Mikron MILL X 400 U's pyramid-shaped structure is made of polymer concrete. Its weight-optimized construction provides the rigidity and dampening properties required for HSM processes. A Step-Tec spindle is engineered to provide precise, high-level performance. Vector control offers full torque in the lowest range and shorter acceleration phases. The spindle also features ceramic hybrid bearings for high stability and integrated smart machine sensors.
The axes are powered with linear drives for high speed and acceleration. The high rapid traverse speeds can reduce downtime, and because there is no ball screw drive or transmission, the amount of maintenance and repair is reduced.
A sophisticated cooling management system includes a separate cooling circuit for each of the linear axes, rotary units and motor spindle, and maintains consistent thermostability. The cooling circuits consistently transfer the heat out of the machine so as to avoid distributing it further inside the machine. Optional machine bed cooling is also available.
For seamless automation, the Mikron MILL X 400 U is available with a single or double-row disk magazine and uses a reliable "pick-up" changing system. Side workpiece loading enhances productivity and process reliability. Operators can easily monitor machining through a large glass window.
