Disc Mill Chamfers and Threads
April 1, 2019
Seco Tools offers its 335.14 single raw Disc Mill with interchangeable threading heads and matching holder shanks. The heads perform both chamfering and threading operations to boost processing speed, precision and versatility as well as reduce required tooling inventories.
The 335.14 heads generate precision threads in holes as deep as 106 mm. "Other threading tools are limited in terms of either thread size and/or maximum hole depths they can thread. The new heads, unlike standard thread mills, are single raw disc mills that circular interpolate an entire hole depth and create threads pitch by pitch, which allows for greater achievable depths," said a company spokesperson.
The cutting action of the new heads keeps chip sizes to a minimum and provides taper-free deep-hole threading. It also means the heads require less machine power and torque, which allows smaller, less powerful machine tools to generate big threads.
The 335.14 shanks are available in both carbide and steel types and with internal coolant capability. Metric sizes are available from 11.7 mm to 21.7 mm and with partial profile from pitch 1 mm - 6 mm (14 pcs). Whitworth full profile heads are offered from 11.7 mm to 17.7 mm and pitch 11, 14 and 19 tpi. UN is offered at 17.7 mm with pitch 24 to 6 tpi.
