General Carbide Corporation, a vertically integrated manufacturer of finished tooling for a wide range of industrial wear and metalforming applications, has purchased Only Tool, an Ypsilanti, MI-based manufacturer of tooling for automotive suppliers.
Only Tool has developed its expertise in cold-form tool manufacturing under the leadership of co-owners Ray Fender and Mick Ruffolo, who have a combined 80 years of experience in the automotive tool & die industry. Only Tool is a U.S. manufacturer that is a single source for the design, production and servicing of precision carbide and high-speed steel tooling used in a full range of cold-extrusion and cold-forming operations. Under terms of the sales agreement, Fender and Ruffolo are continuing to operate the business.
"Over the past 50 years, General Carbide has devoted considerable resources to developing advanced metallurgical grades," said Mona Pappafava-Ray, President and CEO, General Carbide. "By sharing our expertise in R&D and manufacturing with Only Tool, we are creating new opportunities for both companies in the automotive tooling market."
Fender said, "Having access to General Carbide's technical and business resources allows us to expand our production capabilities and add skilled toolmakers to our team."
Ruffolo added, "Becoming part of the General Carbide family enables us to focus exclusively on our strength, which is providing automotive suppliers with quality tooling."
General Carbide's ongoing investments in applications engineering and metallurgy have allowed the company to manufacture finished tooling, as well as tungsten carbide powders that are shaped, sintered and finish-ground into parts.
