The Assembly Show has announced that Richard Morris, Vice President of Assembly and Logistics at BMW Manufacturing Co. in Greer, SC, will be the keynote speaker at the third annual Assembly Show. Morris will speak during the opening day keynote, which will take place on Wednesday, October 28, at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL.
"We are looking forward to welcoming Richard Morris as our keynote speaker who will share exciting details about BMW's South Carolina factory, their only assembly plant in the United States," said Tom Esposito, Publisher, Assembly Magazine, sponsors of the event. "Our attendees will certainly gain a lot of insight from Morris who will discuss how the facility is also a leader in implementing many new assembly technologies."
Morris will present on these new technology advancements including the use of collaborative robots that help workers perform final door assembly, the use of material handling equipment powered by hydrogen fuel cells to shuttle parts and supplies throughout the plant and how the facility is running a pilot project to determine whether the Google Glass wearable computer could improve workflow in quality assurance. According to the company, Morris will also educate attendees on how the factory's workflow will increase over the next few years as the German automaker executes a $1 billion plan to ramp up production to 450,000 vehicles, introduce a new vehicle-the X7-to its model lineup and add approximately 1,000 new jobs. When the expansion is completed, the local plant will be the largest of BMW's five production facilities around the world.
In addition to this dynamic keynote presentation, there will be 20 presentations in the exhibit hall by companies including 3M, Balluff, Desoutter, DE-STA-CO, FESTO, FlexCraft, Henkel, LACO Technologies, Panasonic Assembly Tools and RedViking. The exhibit hall will feature over 200 exhibiting companies including Gold Sponsor Promess, Silver Sponsors FESTO and ASG, and Bronze Sponsor Schmidt Technology as well as many of the Charter exhibitors who helped launch the event in 2013 including IAC Industries, SCHUNK, Bosch Rexroth Corp., ASG Division of Jergens and InterTech Development.
