Mazak offers several machine tools, including the HORIZONTAL CENTER UNIVERSAL (HCU) 4000. "This new 4-axis horizontal machining center with three-point leveling cost-effectively packages productivity-enhancing features, such as an expandable tool changer, so shops can grow their business without making a huge capital investment," said a company spokesperson.
This Kentucky-built machine comes standard equipped with a 12,000 RPM, CAT 40 spindle designed for metal removal capabilities in all common materials, including steel, aluminum and cast iron. An optional 20,000 RPM speed is also available.
"A cam-driven automatic tool changer significantly reduces non-cut times on the HCU 4000 by quickly exchanging tools and getting the spindle back in the cut in the shortest time possible," said the spokesperson. "The tool monitoring on the machine maximizes production efficiency and lowers operating costs via early problem detection. Tool storage capacities of 40, 80 or 120 tools ensure continuous machining operation and increased versatility."
The HCU 4000 comes standard equipped with an NC-positioning table that allows the machine to perform 4-axis capabilities, while an optional NC-rotary table makes 4-axis simultaneous contouring possible. The tables feature a 15.75" square pallet that allows the machine to process parts up to 24.8" in diameter and 35.4" high. Machine travels measure 22" X, 25.2" Y and 25.2" Z.
"The Mazak MX Hybrid Roller Guide System on the HCU 4000 enables the machine to deliver high levels of durability and reliability, resulting in long-term accuracy," said the spokesperson. "The way system increases vibration dampening, extends tool life, handles higher load capacities and eliminates tramp oil in the coolant by utilizing a greener grease-based lubrication system.
"The HCU 4000 employs Mazak's user-friendly SMART CNC that shortens job set-up times by allowing operators of all skill levels to easily develop machining programs. Programming time is 75% faster with the SMART CNC when compared with machines using EIA/ISO systems."
