Automatic Door Systems Improve Machining Center Productivity
July 1, 2015
Midaco offers its Automatic Door System for vertical machining centers (VMCs), turning centers, mills, lathes, robotic applications or other machinery with single or double doors. It is designed to save time in production as well as improve ergonomics and operator fatigue by eliminating manual door opening tasks.
The Automatic Door System uses an air cylinder to operate the door by using either a manual push button or the automatic Smart System interfaced with the machine's control. In both cases the system is furnished with a door mounted safety stop that will quickly reverse and open the door if any obstruction is encountered during door closure. The "Open Door" commands are ignored if a spindle or chuck is running (parent machine must be able to supply or receive signal).
The Robot Access Door System is built into the side of a VMC, allowing the robot quick access to the interior of the machine enclosure for loading and unloading parts. The Robot Access Door seals when closed to contain coolant and chips and is fully automated for unattended operation (parent machine must be able to supply or receive signal).
"Either on their own or combined with Midaco's automatic and manual pallet changers, which quickly swap pallets in and out of a machining center, the door systems are a step in automating machinery to get more parts out the door," said a company spokesperson.
