Large-Scale Wire and Sinker EDM Equipment

ONA EDM is a builder of custom and large-scale wire and sinker EDM machines. A recent addition to the company's wire EDM product line is the AF60 Modular Wire EDM machine, a part of the large-scale, modular design ONA AF series. "With this system the customer can configure with flexibility the machine that meets his or her requirements," said a company spokesperson. "It is available in 28 different standard configurations and allows the cutting of workpieces up to 1,000 mm in height while in the totally submerged mode. All models come standard with automatic threading and chillers and can thread all types of wire the complete height of the Z-axis travels."
All ONA AF modular models include a high-power ONA Easycut digital generator, which is designed and sized to reach high EDM cutting speeds (450 mm2/minute with wire with Ø 0.33 mm and 370 mm2/minute with wire with Ø 0.25 mm) and provide 100% electrolytic corrosion-free cuts without any detriment to the cutting speed.
ONA offers more than 80 models of large die-sinking EDM machines. The most recent addition is the ONA NX Sinker EDM line, which is equipped with new high-speed heads and a new servo control system. "With acceleration of up to 1.2 G (10 m/s2), machine productivity can be improved up to 30%," said the spokesperson. "These advances are particularly significant in machining narrow and deep ribs using very thin graphite electrodes. Of great importance is the incorporation of the volumetric compensation function in the CNC, which guarantees high levels of long-term precision."
In addition, the system can use one or two heads that are commanded by two independent CNC generators. This allows the possibility of eroding two cavities simultaneously in a large workpiece. "With its modular design customers can get a custom system for the same price and lead time as a standard model," said the spokesperson.
