New Graphite Comparison Data for EDM Industry
February 1, 2015
"In today's connected world, purchasing expectations include making informed decisions based upon product research, real data and reviews," said an Ohio Carbon Blank spokesperson. "We believe comparative graphite data should be easily accessible as a baseline for assessing the many graphite choices today. Most recently, we have launched 'Test 6' as the beginning of an extensive reference database that can be used for comparison of many grades of EDM graphite."
Test 6 consists of "burning" sharp corner slotted shapes into hardened H-13 tool steel using 24 different graphite grades. Rougher and finisher electrodes are used to replicate the EDM of die or mold tooling applications. Wear on the electrode for each material is tested on a Sodick EDM machine and measured using two different methods. Test 6 includes testing for end wear, radii wear, material removal rates and surface finish. The 24 graphite materials tested include low, medium and high density grades including AR-12, EDM-200, AR-14, AR-6, AR-8, E+25, R 8710, EDM-3 and more.
Test 6 is part of a larger effort by Ohio Carbon Blank to make graphite and EDM data available to industry professionals.
