Hwacheon Machinery America's recently introduced H6 horizontal machining center (HMC) for heavy-duty machine shop work will be on display at Houstex 2015 in the SMI Machine Tools booth.
"We researched what the machine shop market needed in a cost-effective, heavy-duty horizontal machining center and we are introducing the new H6," said Michael Huggett, Hwacheon Machinery America President. "For much of their work, many machine shops require an affordable heavy-duty 630 mm pallet machining center to produce various lots of steel, titanium and iron parts in short and longer runs.
"The machine integrates the mechanical strengths of the Hwacheon machine design and its adaptive software suite for machining efficiency and quality at a cost approximately 20 per cent less than similar sized machines from other leading machine builders," said Huggett.
"The new H6 offers rigidity with stable box ways and a gear-driven 47-HP, 8,000- or 15,000-RPM, 50-taper spindle for stable, powerful, high-torque cutting. A twin drive system for the X and Y axes ensures precise and faster cutting rates."
Hwacheon's oil-jet cooling system is designed for heavy-duty cutting performance and precision motion even after long periods of machining. Additionally, a strong frame structure designed with 3D design and FEM analysis supports workpiece quality.
Axis strokes are 1050 mm X 900 mm X 1000 mm with a B-axis rotation of 360 degrees. Table working surface is 630 X 630 mm and load capacity is 1600 kg (3,500 lbs). With 41" of swing inside the machine, 80 mm pallets can be employed.
The machine has a 40-tool magazine standard with optional 60-, 90-, 120- or 150-tool magazines capacities.
According to the company, the Hwacheon clean room assembly facility, where these super-precision, super-rigid spindles are manufactured, maintains optimal temperature and humidity, resulting in spindles that meet the toughest quality standard in the industry. The transmission and the spindle motor are designed separately so that the heat and the vibration generated from the transmission do not interfere with the spindle motor.
Software
The H6 includes Hwacheon's software designed to enable users to maximize machining efficiency, productivity and quality. Hwacheon machining centers feature standard integrated software developed in conjunction with the latest FANUC CNC for thermal displacement control and compensation. Software measures thermal conditions in the machine during the cycle and uses the information collected to dynamically verify and control accuracy.
In this way, Hwacheon can control the kinematics of the machines for contour machining, optimizing machine performance for roughing, semifinish, and finish machining without employing a number of different programs.
- HTLD: Tool Load Detection software provides real time measurement of tool load ensuring consistent and safe machining. Constantly monitoring tool damage and deterioration for prevention of complete tool failure causing work piece damage, this software is designed for accuracy and performance. Such a system will measures tool load very frequently, such as every 8 msecs.
- HECC: Hwacheon high efficiency contour control system offers an easy-to-use programming interface system which provides a precise, custom contour control for the selected workpiece while supporting longer machine life and reduced process time. Such software will offer different options for cutting speed and accuracy, and for surface finish and geometry. A customizable display provides real time monitoring and easy access. This software may be used with existing NC systems and is compatible with G-Code programming.
- OPTIMA: A cutting feed optimization routine utilizes an adaptive control method to regulate the feedrate in real time to sustain a consistent cutting load while machining. As a result, cutting tools are less prone to damage and machining time is reduced. The system controls the feed velocity to maintain consistent cutting load. Features include a graphic display of tool load and feedrate, convenient operation using G-code programming, and a number of data sets for specific tool and process control.
Additionally, highly sensitive thermal sensors mounted at various locations in the machine castings where thermal displacement is possible can permit software monitoring and correction of detected thermal displacement.
- HSDC: Hwacheon spindle displacement control is also possible with software. As a spindle rotates at high speed, centrifugal forces and heat expand the spindle taper causing error in the Z-axis. This axis accuracy is vital to precision mating of die components. In addition to a high precision cooled spindle, software can be used to constantly monitor temperature at a number of points within the spindle assembly predicting thermal displacement. The system can then makes necessary adjustments and effectively minimize thermal displacement, preventing Z-axis error due to taper expansion as the spindle rotates at high speed.
