5-Axis EDM Drilling System Incorporates New Advancements
February 1, 2015
The Current EDM model CT500-5AS is a production EDM drilling system with XY travels of 22" x 14" x 16". The 5-axis positioning machine is designed to drill cooling holes in complex land-based or aerospace turbine components, medical parts, and die and mold applications.
The CT500-5A incorporates a choice of either of two Nikken AB table configurations fully integrated with the Siemens SINUMERIK 840D sl control that positions the part for drilling angled holes. Its ergonomic design and palletized tooling allows for easy loading of the workpiece. Automated electrode and guide changing and a complete low-maintenance DI system are included.
According to the company, the following are newly added or enhanced features:
- Improved programmable servo control function reduces very small diameter electrodes from flexing, even when drilling with very small diameter electrodes. "Users can expect faster drilling times and improved accuracy detecting electrode breakthrough," said a company spokesperson.
- Enhanced electrode utilization optimization software maximizes electrode usage while using the automatic electrode changer. Electrode change times have been reduced.
- New power supply technologies for drilling with reduced electrode side wear at the tip of the electrode, resulting in better hole diameter and depth consistency, faster drilling speed and more holes per electrode.
- Trace function: A new depth control graphing log documents drilling parameters for each hole and is stored in the Siemens control. The information can be graphically displayed for operator analysis and part tracking.
- This upgrade can be generally adapted to existing Siemens customers.
