Busche, a CNC production machining organization, with locations in Albion and Kendallville, IN, as well as Hartselle, AL, announced it has successfully achieved ISO 14001:2004 certification for its Environmental Management System. This certification is registered by American Systems Registrar (ASR) out of Wyoming, MI, and encompasses all of Busche's eight production facilities, central stores and metrology lab.
The International Standard ISO 14001: 2004 provides both a model for streamlining environmental management, as well as guidelines to ensure environmental issues are considered within the decision making practices of an organization.
Brian Hobbs, TS-ISO Coordinator for Busche, commenced the journey to ISO 14001:2004 in August 2013 and completed the auditor training just one month later. With stage one and stage two audits conducted both in Indiana and Alabama, he led the Busche Team to ISO 14001:2004 certification in just eight months. Jim Stewart, General Manager for Busche Indiana, noted Busche has always maintained a recycling program for its oils, coolants, carbides and lighting, but is now commencing recycling programs for paper products. "Our next initiative will be aerosol cans. Busche's goal is to reduce our impact on the environment while achieving cost saving benefits from our efforts," said Stewart.
Nick A. Busche, CEO/President of Busche, said, "With our commitment to continuous improvements this was a natural step for our organization. We are seeing an ongoing drive by the manufacturing community, as well as our customers, to assure their suppliers are using environmentally sound practices. Our efforts show not only our commitment to our customers but also our concern for the environment, and the health and safety of our employees and the communities in which we operate. The ISO 14001:2004 certification provides the assurance our customers are demanding, and the platform for Busche to implement new initiatives to reduce our environmental footprint in our communities."
