MSCI Unveils Addition to Online Learning System
June 1, 2014
The impending need for workers in the manufacturing industry continues to be of concern for the country and especially the metals industry. To offer member companies broader options, the Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI) recently added to MetalLearn, its proprietary online education tool. MetalLearn is an interactive learning system with modules that address each of the 10 most popular lines of metal sold by metals service centers, including carbon and alloy plate, bar, sheet and tubing, structural shapes, stainless steel, aluminum, high-corrosion and temperature-resistant metals, copper and brass and tool steels.
MetalLearn is geared for workers new to the metals industry or specific metals products and allows students to work at their own pace. Grade, characteristics and uses are all included in the modules. An individual's progress is continually updated through the Learning Management System so that training directors and supervisors may monitor their development.
"Continually enhancing our educational offerings specific to the metals industry - for all levels of employees from entry-level through specific departments and executive education - is part of our commitment to our members and to the industry. The newest expansion of the Copper and Brass MetalLearn unit to aid with product-specific training is part of that effort," said M. Robert Weidner, III, President and Chief Executive Officer of MSCI.
