The ST-40L Turning Center and EC-1600YZT HMC from Haas Automation, Inc. are designed to provide the size and power necessary to handle large part machining.
The ST-40L offers a 40 HP, 1,400 ft-lb torque spindle with cutting speeds to 2,400 RPM. A 55 HP, 2,100 ft-lb spindle is available. The A2-8 spindle has a bar capacity of 4" and the big-bore A2-11 option will handle 7" bars. This turning center has a 25.5" cutting diameter and an 80" cutting length, with a 34.5" swing over the front apron to handle large parts.
The Haas ST-40L turning center is designed to provide rigidity and high thermal stability to help ensure precision and long life. It comes standard with a 15" chuck and MT5 programmable servo tailstock. The 12-station bolt-on turret will handle any combination of OD or ID tools, and live tooling with C-axis is available with the optional BOT/VDI hybrid turret to cut cycle times and reduce setups.
Standard features include a 120-gallon (454 liter) integrated coolant tank with 3/4 HP (0.6 kW) pump, rigid tapping and a remote jog handle with color LCD. A variety of options are available, including a belt type chip conveyor, high-intensity lighting, work gauging probe and steady rest provision.
The EC-1600YZT HMC features a work cube of 64" x 50" x 40" to accommodate most large part requirements. The 30 HP vector drive, 50-taper geared spindle head develops 450 ft-lb torque and spins up to 6,000 RPM for heavy cutting, with a 10,000 RPM spindle optional. The 64" x 32" T-slot table supports parts up to 10,000 lbs.
A 30+1 side-mount tool changer is standard, as well as a color LCD remote jog handle, rigid tapping, chip auger and more. Among the options are an in tank belt type chip conveyor, programmable coolant nozzle and probe system.
For machining four sides of a workpiece in a single setup, an optional 30" full 4th-axis platter is also available for high-speed contouring and fully interpolated motion. It is fully integrated into the table, has a 10,000 lb weight capacity and is designed to provide accuracy and rigidity for off-center milling and drilling/tapping operations.
