Makino Technology Expo 2013

Auburn Hills, Michigan - July 23, 2013 - Makino is pleased to announce a two-day event giving attendees the opportunity to learn about new manufacturing processes, techniques, philosophies and strategies vital to transforming their business for greater success in the global marketplace. The Makino Technology Expo is slated to take place Sept. 11 and 12, from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in its Technology Center in Auburn Hills, Mich.

The biennial event is set to include demonstrations of Makino's latest high-precision machining centers, including the new U3 and U6 wire EDM platforms, and features guest presentations addressing topics geared toward enhancing productivity in the tool, die, mold, medical and precision component industries.

"We are looking forward to having manufacturers visit our facility to discuss a variety of industry issues, innovations and solutions with our experts," said Mark Rentschler, marketing manager at Makino. "We know that this event will help attendees bring new information back to their shops, including ways to grow their business, improve productivity and quality, and increase their bottom line. We are pleased to have Laurie Harbour present her latest findings and information from her assessment of over 150 tooling suppliers to the automotive industry. This will provide attendees an excellent benchmark for operational excellence as they assess their own operations."

Featured Machines and Demonstrations

At the expo, Makino engineers are available for one-on-one consultations to help manufacturers identify a manufacturing solution that best fits their unique needs. Attendees can also observe a variety of machine demonstrations and expert presentations, as noted below:

• Evolution of Wire EDM Technology: Featuring Makino's new U3 and U6 wire EDM platform to produce higher accuracy and finer surface finishes with less wire consumption.

• Getting Rid of Rust: How rust affects steel parts left in wire EDM water dielectric for long periods of times and ways to eliminate this problem.

• High-Speed Rib Machining: Learn how to reduce manufacturing costs through using fewer machined electrodes, and reduced or eliminated hand-finishing operations.

• Micromachining and Metrology: How Makino enables the automatic machining of small-scale features requiring submicron levels of accuracy and positional placement.

• Productivity per Square Foot: Makino's new N2 5-axis platform provides a sizable work zone in a compact design, with a highly rigid structure for enhanced accuracy and reliability.

• 5-Axis Machining: A new machining method using 5-axis continuous motion focuses on increasing tool life and productivity through shorter machining time.

• D800Z Large 5-Axis Machining: This presentation explores how to achieve new levels of sustained dynamic accuracy achieved through technologies that minimize thermal influences and maximize volumetric accuracy in order to increase productivity.

• EDM Hole Machining: The advantages and disadvantages of EDM drilling in oil dielectric and water are compared and benefits analyzed.

• MPmax: Learn how this software helps personnel visualize and analyze information from the machines in order to maximize machine utilization, manage tool data, schedule production and more.

Guest Presenters

In addition to hearing from experts at Makino, attendees of the Technology Expo can anticipate industry-leading advice on world-class manufacturing and operational excellence as well as economic forecasts from several guest speakers:

• Ken Mayland, Ph.D., President, ClearView Economics LLC - ClearView Economics LLC is a firm specializing in economic research and forecasting. Ken was previously the chief economist of two major financial institutions (First Pennsylvania Bank and KeyCorp).
