CNC Services Extend Machine Life, Performance

Mitsubishi Electric, a provider of industrial automation and CNC solutions, offers innovative technology and strong support to manufacturers throughout the Americas.

"For over 50 years, Mitsubishi Electric has supported the North American machine tool industry with a service team dedicated to maximizing CNC productivity across generations of equipment," said a company spokesperson. "Our experienced technicians, robust parts network, and customizable upgrade paths provide manufacturers with a cost- and time-effective way to upgrade their existing CNC equipment, avoiding the delays associated with full machine replacements. These services help address the ongoing industry challenge of keeping older machine tools productive, reliable, and ready for automation."

Repair and Service

Mitsubishi Electric's factory-trained technicians support current and legacy Mitsubishi Electric CNCs by offering:

  • Board-level repairs
  • Exchange programs
  • System-level diagnostics
  • Servo and spindle drive tuning
  • Maintenance programs
  • Field level repairs.

This approach allows manufacturers to restore machine performance quickly while maintaining OEM-level compatibility and long-term reliability.

Mitsubishi Electric offers extended CNC system warranties to customers whose original warranties have already expired. To protect customers' robot investment, Mitsubishi Electric offers a Robot Diamond Assurance Preventive Maintenance Plan. The plan not only offers worry-free service for the first five years of purchase, but also valuable services, such as annual preventive maintenance visits, priority support, free engineering software licenses, and training.

To support growing demand, Mitsubishi Electric is expanding its repair and service footprint in North America, including additional space at its Mason, OH, facility. The expanded Mason operation is designed to support increased repair capacity and strengthen service response for CNC and factory automation customers across the region. The facility will enhance service capabilities and bring technical resources closer to customers.

Retrofit

Beyond repair, Mitsubishi Electric enables manufacturers to retrofit existing CNC machines with modern automation and control technology.

One example is Full House Machinery, a Florida-based, family-owned OEM whose legacy PC-based CNC control system had become difficult to program, commission, and support. Rather than redesigning its machines from the ground up, Full House retrofitted its existing control architecture with an integrated CNC and PLC platform from Mitsubishi Electric. The upgrade layered modern CNC functionality, modular programming, and unified controls onto established machine designs. This retrofit approach cut commissioning time dramatically, simplified customization, and extended the life and competitiveness of existing equipment, giving Full House a scalable foundation to serve larger customers without a full machine redesign.

Another example is Usinage Précision Bilodeau (UPB), a North American job shop facing skilled labor shortages and underutilized CNC capacity. They were seeking a retrofit strategy that would layer on automation to existing equipment, preserving capital while increasing output. So, instead of purchasing new machines, UPB retrofitted an existing CNC with a Mitsubishi Electric robotic machine tending solution, called LoadMate Plus. The retrofit automated part handling without extensive re-engineering. The result was immediate productivity improvement and a scalable automation foundation that allowed UPB to increase output.

No End-of-Life Service

"A key differentiator in Mitsubishi Electric's retrofit and repair approach is long-term backward compatibility," said the spokesperson. "We continue to support decades of past CNC controls, as well as our current generations, ensuring that repairs, upgrades, and automation integrations are aligned with OEM specifications. This reduces risk for manufacturers modernizing equipment that remains mechanically sound but digitally outdated. These upgrades are supported by the same service organization responsible for repair and ongoing maintenance, providing a single, accountable partner throughout the equipment lifecycle."

"For manufacturers evaluating retrofit, remanufacture, or repair strategies, Mitsubishi Electric offers not just technology, but a long-term service partner committed to keeping machines productive for decades to come," concluded the spokesperson.
