5-Axis HMCs Built for Aerospace Precision

Kent CNC offers KHS 5-axis HMCs that are built for aerospace precision.

"With high-torque spindles, full 5-axis contouring, and ultra-rigid construction, they handle titanium, Inconel, and superalloys with ease," said a Kent spokesperson. "A high-performance rotary table delivers the elevated RPM needed for turning small or large parts-perfect for aluminum and high-SFM applications."

Key features include:

  • Engineered for aerospace superalloy processing: Designed with a high-power, high-torque spindle, this machine boosts material removal rates-reducing overall machining time, the company reported.
  • High-rigidity T-shaped structure: The base features an inverted dual V-shaped rib design, enabling optimal force flow distribution. Full-length support of the X-axis travel prevents deflection and sagging due to gravity, maintaining improved surface finish and workpiece accuracy.
  • High-speed dual ball screw drive on all axes: The X, Y, and Z axes are driven by dual high-speed ball screws. This configuration maintains alignment between the center of motion and the center of mass, effectively minimizing vibration and enhancing machining precision.
  • Fully enclosed splash guard: Minimizes noise while effectively containing chips and coolant, offering a cleaner and safer work environment.
  • High-torque B-axis clamping system: With a clamping torque of 6,000 Nm, this system offers high rigidity for demanding machining operations.
  • AGA spindle purpose-built for superalloy processing: Equipped with a high-torque spindle (up to 500 Nm, optional), this configuration is specially designed for efficient, stable cutting of tough superalloys.

Specifications for the KHS-1400/KHS-1400T units:

  • X-axis travels: 1,800 mm/1,800 mm
  • Y-axis travels: 1,250/1,550 (opt.)
  • Z-axis travels: 1,320 mm/1,320 mm
  • Distance from spindle end to table (vertical std.): -165 ~ 1,085 mm/-5 ~ 1,245 mm
  • Distance from spindle end to table (horizontal std.): 185 ~ 1,435 mm/-65 ~ 1,185 mm
  • Table size (dia.): 1,000 mm/1,250 mm
  • Max. processing diameter: 1,800 mm/1,800 mm
  • Max. table load: 2,000 kg/3,200 kg.
