Reimagine Grinding HMIs with FANUC Picture

CNC Engineering has introduced its latest advancement in grinding technology: Open Vision Grind Lite (OVG LT)-a new HMI solution built on FANUC Picture and the latest FANUC 0i-F PLUS CNC platform.

"For years, high-end grinding HMIs have depended on external PCs and custom software to manage things like dressing paths, grinding cycles, wheel definitions, and part geometries," said a company spokesperson. "While these systems offer flexibility, they come with drawbacks-namely added hardware costs, IT maintenance requirements, and potential downtime due to PC instability. OVG LT changes that."

Running entirely on new FANUC 0i-F Plus controls and FANUC Picture, this streamlined solution is designed to eliminate the need for a PC altogether-offering:

  • Native integration on the FANUC 15" iHMI front endOVG-LT-0i-Plus
  • Faster boot times and increased reliability
  • No Windows OS, no third-party software layers.

Justin Caravella, Vice President of CNC Engineering, said, "We are seeing a massive shift toward simplifying the operator experience. By embedding Open Vision Grind LT directly into the FANUC iHMI, we are removing the 'PC barrier' between the operator and the process. In a CNC grinding application, this means faster boot times, more intuitive touchscreens, and a level of stability that simply was not possible with the previous generation of PC-based grinding software. And because it is embedded directly within the FANUC control, everything runs faster and with greater reliability."

Even without a PC, OVG LT is feature-rich, the company reported. Highlights include:

  • Define part profiles and wheel shapes
  • Manage multiwheel dressing paths
  • Interact with G-code and CNC macros in real time
  • Use touchscreen controls designed for operator efficiency.

"Whether you are retrofitting an older grinder or building a new system from the ground up, OVG LT provides a modern, stable, and cost-effective HMI solution," said the spokesperson. "It delivers the clean interface and robust performance Open Vision Grind is known for-without the extra hardware burden."
