Next-Gen CNC Platform Powers the Future of Manufacturing

The new FANUC Series 500i-A is now available for machine tool builders to order. Built on the reliability of past series, the new 500i-A architecture offers advancements in machining performance, usability, and digital innovation.

At the core of the FANUC Series 500i-A is a new hardware and software platform that provides up to 2.7x the CPU processing power of the previous 30i-B Plus generation. This upgrade enables faster machining speeds, shorter cycle times, and higher overall productivity. Enhanced graphics, multiple Gigabit Ethernet ports, and a streamlined, battery-less design further boost operability and reduce maintenance needs, the company reported.

This series is available in a variety of CNC models-including 501i-A, 501iS-A, 502i-A, 502iS-A, and 503i-A-offering flexible machine configurations supporting up to 96 controlled axes and advanced multipath capability. Paired with the new FANUC ai-D Servo series, this CNC system offers high-speed and high-accuracy motion while reducing electrical consumption through integrated energy-saving features.

The Series 500i-A also advances 5-axis machining with enhanced capabilities such as built-in 3D interference checks, manual set-up assistance, continuous tool-length compensation, and flexible 5-axis command support. These enhancements make complex machining safer, faster, and more intuitive.

A redesigned operator interface introduces modern touchscreens with auto-scaling, simplified "one task, one screen" operation, and customizable layouts. Operators will benefit from the streamlined workflows and ease of use provided by these features, noted the company.

Paired with FANUC's Smart Digital Twin tools, the Series 500i-A unlocks full digital twin capabilities for machine tool builders. Digital development tools help speed up commissioning by enabling simulation of all machine processes, including high-speed motion, for faster testing and easier project management.
