Rubber Gripper Pads for Long Wear Workholding

GP Series rubber gripper pads from Fairlane Products (left) along with a sample of the company's full line of gripper and rest pads.

Fairlane Products, manufacturer of precision workholding, automation and assembly components, provides the latest entry into its lineup of grippers and gripper pads-the GP Series of rubber gripper pads. The GP Series rubber gripper pads are designed as industrial grade contact wear points for automation and positioning applications.

They are constructed of black nitrile rubber that is molded to a 1/16" aluminum backing that can be mounted flat or contoured and formed into round or sharp corners for a wide variety of uses. The pads are highly customizable for designers and end users to make final size and mounting preparation, and they are easily replaceable. Standard, off-the-shelf sizes come in strip (6" length, 1-1/4" width) or as square (1-1/4") pads. The pads come in smooth, fine hatch and coarse hatch surfaces with standard pad heights of 1/4" and 1/2". Counter-bore hole or adhesive backed options for mounting are available.

In addition to the GP Series rubber grippers, Fairlane Products has available a lineup of a wide range of solid carbide, diamond-tipped and urethane gripper pads in inch and metric sizes. The solid carbide, made from high impact grade carbide, provides toughness and long service life, helping to protect expensive fixture components from damage, wear and tear while affording secure holding strength and positive contact. The diamond-tipped grippers are suited for holding smooth and slippery surfaces, while the urethane-tipped surface provides for nonmarring and nonstaining of the workpiece. All grippers afford secure holding strength and positive contact.

The solid carbide grippers are produced in two styles-as thin pads that can be brazed into pockets, or as thicker inserts with a tapped hole or a machined O.D. flat for mounting. Within the pad options are tooth patterns of fine, extra-fine, super-fine, smooth, 4-point, straight, angular and saw tooth, plus a selection of shapes consisting of square, round and rectangular. Square sizes range from 3/8 to 1" and thicknesses from 1/8" to 5/32". Round pads range from 1/4" to 1" diameter and from 1/8" to 5/32" thick. Rectangular sizes are 3/8" x 1/4" to 1-1/2" x 3/4" and from 1/8" to 1/4" thick. The diamond-tipped and urethane grippers come in round shape with diameters of up to 1" and up to 27 mm. Used in jigs, fixtures and chuck jaws, these grippers are versatile enough to fit a variety of applications.
