Automation Job Manager Eliminates Need for Robot Programming

With Hurco's Automation Job Manager feature, automation is managed conversationally through the Hurco control-no robot programming required.

Hurco's Automation Job Manager feature integrates fully with ProCobots robots, eliminating the need for any direct robot programming. This software integration is designed for high-mix manufacturing with frequent part changeovers and gives operators complete control over their automation.

"Simply put: if you can run a Hurco, you can run ProCobots automation. With Hurco automation, you do not run into the bottle neck or expense of an integrator to set up your automation because you do not need to program the robot," said Mike Cope, Hurco Product Technical Specialist. "Instead, you program the automation right on the Hurco control with the Automation Job Manager feature. This gives our customers complete control over their automation-quick changeover (less than five minutes), flexibility (ability to move the robot to another Hurco machine), quick installation and no robot programming."

In addition to automatically calibrating with the Hurco machine, Automation Job Manager allows the user to queue and run multiple jobs with different parts and stack parts to multiply the table's part capacity.

The conversational Automation Job Manager software is so user friendly that machinists can fully set up their systems with just five simple steps:

1. Select your CNC program

2. Enter the part dimensions

3. Run Automatic Job Setup

4. Select the pockets

5. Start the job.

"If you walk out in the shop, you would think we had been running those robots for a year or two. It has been about 15-20 days since we got our first one, and there's three running right now all day and all night," Bob Timm, CFO of Oakridge Fabrication, said regarding how easy it was to incorporate ProCobots into his shop's processes.

With automation this simple, a growing number of shops are turning to Hurco/ProCobots as their solution to the expanding labor shortage. By automating the loading/unloading of parts, shops can maximize the time/talents of the workers they do have, ultimately maximizing productivity.

"A job like this sitting on the table is three days of me handloading parts, but ProCobots will run for basically three days of work in a night," noted Cody Gardner, machinist at Oakridge Fabrication.

A spokesperson said, "The Automation Job Manager feature is just one reason Hurco is known for having the most powerful and intuitive conversational control on the market today. However, even machine shops that use G-code and rely on CAD/CAM software have found increased productivity by leveraging the versatility of the Hurco control. These shops often use NC for the complex parts, but use conversational programming for one-offs, simple 2D work and fixturing."

"At Hurco, the skills gap and labor shortages our customers face drive us to make sure the Hurco control is easy to learn, easy to use, and is the most versatile control in the industry whether a shop uses CAD/CAM or conversational," said Cope.

Mastercam Applications Engineer Jesse Trinque conducted a demo on a Hurco VMX42HSRTi and said of the control, "It was moving through code at an unbelievable pace, and really at a level far above the price point Hurco is at. There are machines that cost double, triple what this machine costs and do not move as well."

The flexibility of the Hurco control is further enhanced by NC/Conversational Merge, another control feature exclusive to Hurco that allows users to apply conversational features, such as pattern operations, scaling, tool probing, part probing and an abundance of work offsets, to NC programs.

Whether a machinist decides to use conversational, NC or NC/Conversational Merge programming, there are multiple Hurco control features that are independent of the type of programming. A few of the features deemed customer favorites include Advanced Verification Graphics with 3D Solid Rendering, 3D Import, Data Block Search and the True Interrupt Cycle.

"Powered by WinMax, Hurco's control also provides technical specifications (standard, not an upcharge) that are better than any CNC control in the industry," said the spokesperson.

In addition to the 10,000-block lookahead that Hurco's patented UltiMotion feature provides, some of the control's other robust technical specifications that are standard include 128-GB solid-state hard drives, 4 GBs of RAM, 2.7-GHz dual-core processors and 15" LCD touchscreen control console monitors.
