New Larger-Sized Surface Grinders

Chevalier reports that its two new larger FSG-2064ADIV and FSG-2048 surface grinders offer 20% more efficiency and a table speed of 98 fpm.

The ADIV Series offers several design features to shorten processing and non-processing preparation while delivering high-precision workpieces on a fully supported worktable.

"Chevalier's two new surface grinders pave the way to smart manufacturing by meeting the current grinding demands and standards required by the automotive, electric vehicle, mining, aerospace and job shop industries," said a Chevalier spokesperson.

"The new, larger FSG-2048ADIV and FSG-2064ADIV machines, offering 20% higher efficiency, join Chevalier's ADIV Series of surface grinders," continued the spokesperson.

The new machines have three features designed to achieve higher efficiency and productivity:

  • Maximum table speed of 98 fpm (30 m/min) achieved by dynamic hydraulic/lubrication system that cools the spindle, guideways and hydraulic oil,
  • Spindle that can withstand heavy load grinding with six ultra-precision angular contact ball bearings,
  • And double-layer casting structure that greatly improves accuracy, rigidity and delivers smooth, stable longitudinal movements.

The two new larger machines, along with the entire ADIV Series, offer several design features to shorten processing and non-processing preparation while delivering high-precision workpieces on a fully supported worktable. The features include: iSurface control, variable speed spindle, constant surface speed, smart grinding path and in-machine manual dynamic balancing.

The FSG-ADIV Series iSurface control is a PC-based (NC control), high-specification industrial unit. The high-response AC servo motors on the Y- and Z-axes are designed to improve accuracy. The control is equipped with a variable-frequency drive system that automatically adjusts the grinding wheel's line speed. A magnetic encoder accurately detects spindle load and correctly grasps the spindle cutting load. A built-in, acceleration gauge monitors the grinding wheel's balance at all times. If the wheel becomes unbalanced, the operator would be notified to rebalance the wheel.

This series of grinders also includes tools to secure Big Data with Chevalier's exclusive iMCSTM (iMachine Communications System). "Combined with 24/7 data collection, utilization monitoring, data analysis, alarm history, maintenance and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), this software package enhances machine efficiency in the factory while enabling remote monitoring and diagnostics to track machine performance and identify potential problems before they arise," said the spokesperson.

Specifications:

  • Table size: FSG-2048ADIV 19.7" x 47.2", FSG-2064ADIV 19.7" x 63.0"
  • Distance between table to spindle centerline: 28.7"
  • Maximum table load: FSG-2048ADIV 2,579 lbs., FSG-2064ADIV 3,395 lbs.
  • Control system: iSurface control PC-based (NC control) with touchscreen
  • Wheel dimension, OD x Width x Bore: O14" x 2" x O5" (O355 x 50 x O127 mm)
  • Grinding spindle drive: Speed 500~1,800 RPM, Power rating 15 HP (optional 25 HP available)
  • Dimensions: FSG-2048ADIV: 190.9" x 118.1" x 110.2"; FSG-2064ADIV 208.7" x 118.1" x 110.2".
