Fume Extraction Technology for Single-Phase Power

The FILTAIR Capture 5 fume extraction system from Miller Electric Mfg. Co. is now available in a 208-230 volt model for single-phase power.

The FILTAIR Capture 5 fume extraction system from Miller Electric Mfg. Co. is now available in a 208-230-volt, single-phase model, making it suitable for use in small shops, rural areas or areas in facilities without access to industrial three-phase power. The Capture 5 system provides a weld fume capture area up to five feet away.

"By increasing weld fume capture distance, the Capture 5 fume extraction system improves safety and reduces downtime for welding operators to adjust the extraction arm, allowing greater productivity on applications with long, continuous welds," said a company spokesperson.

The new 230-volt, single-phase Capture 5 fume extraction system and the previously available 460 and 575 volt, three-phase model offer Miller-exclusive ZoneFlow technology. This technology extends the weld fume capture distance by way of a negative pressure zone that is designed to take air into the extraction arm at a standard rate of 900 cubic feet per minute (CFM) and release filtered air at approximately a 90 degree angle. The negative pressure zone created by the dynamics of this airflow draws the weld fume toward the center of the arm, resulting in extended weld fume capture and a cleaner, safer breathing zone for welding operators.

The specially designed fume extraction arm creates less resistance, allowing stronger airflow, and also provides a full range of motion, so welding operators can easily adjust it to the desired position. No tools are necessary.

All three available models of the Capture 5 fume extraction system include high-efficiency FilTek XL filters that operate at low-pressure differential to increase capture abilities. These filters are rated at 15 to 16 on a MERV scale. Automated pulsed cleaning cycles operate after each shutdown to help extend filter life and simplify maintenance.
