High-Precision Form Grinder Delivers 1u Accuracy

The UPZ-Li Form Grinder is specifically designed for ultra-high tolerance grinding of tough-to-grind materials in industries such as electronics, form tool, fiber optics and more.

The UPZ-Li features a rigid T-shape base design and construction. The extra large, heavy-duty column assembly provides rigidity and vibration damping needed for critical high-tolerance grinding applications. Zero table overhang eliminates deflection, and a specially designed oil-cooled spindle head assembly minimizes thermal expansion. Standard 3-axis scale feedback is designed to simplify positioning and assure consistent high accuracy grinding.

The UPZ-Li's linear motor table drive is engineered to provide fast, accurate table positioning and high-speed table reciprocation of 500 strokes/min at 10 mm (0.3937") stroke. Stopping accuracy is 1µ (0.000039"). High accuracy positioning also enables in-process measuring. The UPZ-Li is ideal for multiple work fixturing. A high productivity shift-plunge cycle cuts grinding cycle times. High-speed contour grinding is available.

Control is provided through easy-to-use Okamoto proprietary software. "Simple touchscreen data input and the available i-cam software's ability to automatically convert DXF files into grinding data simplifies operation, even for inexperienced operators," said a company spokesperson.

Standard features include a grinding wheel and adaptor, three-point table mounted dresser, oil-cooled spindle head, 3-axis closed loop feedback system and more. Available options include a variety of coolant systems, electro-magnetic chucks, on-machine profile measuring system with CCD camera, combination two-point rotary dresser/single point dresser and more.
