Suited for the aerospace industry, the Mazak VTC-800/30SDR vertical traveling column machining center with simultaneous 5-axis capabilities brings precision and high metal removal rates to critical parts production.
Featuring a fixed table and moving column design, the VTC-800/30SDR processes workpieces up to 32.28" in diameter and 137.8" high. Part examples include tail ribs, wing ribs, fuselage ribs and floor beams for an airplane. Also adding to the machine's performance are dual synchronized rotary tables and a highly effective swarf management system.
The machine's 40-taper, 50-HP spindle has a maximum RPM speed of 18,000 for easily tackling a wide variety of materials. The spindle head tilts +/- 110 degrees in the B-axis, while the table indexes 360 degrees in the C-axis.
The machine's automatic tool changer magazine comes standard with 30 tools. A 48-tool magazine option is also available. The ATC supports tools up to 3.15" in diameter and 13.78" high with a maximum weight of 17.6 pounds.
Axis travels for the machine are 118.10" X, 31.50" Y and 28.35" Z, with each having fast rapid traverse rates of 1,969 IPM.
With an optional center partition, it is possible to transform the machine's table into two separate work areas where the machine processes parts on one side, while operators load/unload parts on the other for an overall reduction in cycle times.
"The machine comes equipped with the MAXTRIX 2 CNC that makes it easy to generate programs for multitasking, simultaneous 5-axis and automated operations," said a Mazak spokesperson. "It features advanced hardware and software functions that ensure fast processing speeds, excellent cornering and superior surface finish in highly complex part production. The CNC accommodates up to nine axes and stores up to 20GB of program data. It also features an extended card for connection to field networks."
