Vertical Vise Mounts to Back of Host Vise for Secondary Operations
May 1, 2016
The Kurt SideWinder vise provides vertical workholding without interfering with an existing host vise or the spindle. SideWinder vise expands the capabilities of 6 or 8-inch vises by adding vertical clamping above and behind the host vise and provides easy spindle access for secondary or final machining operations. SideWinder mounts to any vise with Kurt industry standard bolt pattern.
Designed to reduce set-up time for second operations, the new SideWinder vise improves throughput and productivity levels using existing machine tools and existing vises. SideWinder sets up easily and can be left attached to the host vise and will not interfere with other machining in the host vise. Removal is easy and reattachment is fast with convenient locating pin feature, which eliminates the need to re-indicate the set-up.
Available in two models, the SDW25 II mounts to any six vises and the SDW35 model mounts to both 6 and 8 inch vises. SideWinder vise features for both models include integral bracket with stabilization feature allowing mounting to the machine table on the movable end of the vise. Both vises also have a workstop to position the height of the work part. SideWinder design uses the Kurt Pull-Type design, which reduces jaw deflection for more accurate clamping. "Like all Kurt vises, both SideWinder models have robust, porosity-free, 80,000-PSI ductile iron bodies," said a company spokesperson.

SideWinder vise is backed by Kurt's exclusive Lifetime Ironclad Warranty.
